Fall of Javert
by Mathalicious

The musical Les Misérables tells the story of the Paris Uprising of 1832 in which university students rioted against the French monarchy. Toward the end of the play, the government’s Inspector Javert falls from a bridge in the middle of Paris into the river below, shouting as he falls. Listen to the audio clip of Javert’s fall. How high must the bridge have been, and does this seem reasonable? Explain.
